Forgotten Fretmasters #21 - Mary Ford
Before Les Paul became a legend, he had to become a successful recording artist first, and a huge part of that success had to do with the vocals and guitar playing of his musical partner……….. But who was this powerhouse whose distinctive, silky vocals and smooth, technical guitar playing drove the sound of those early ‘50s singles? ………. Today, we’re going to find out as we look at the life and career of one of the most successful recording artists of the early 1950’s, the one, the only… Mary Ford.

Did JOHN LENNON'S GHOST visit The Beatles in 1995?

This is one of the spookiest ghost stories in rock, and it involves one of the most iconic musicians in the history of recorded music. Did John return to The Beatles while they worked on his songs for the Anthology in 1995? Here's the story; you be the judge!

    Other than the masterpiece that is 'All Right Now' and maybe a couple of other songs, i could never really get into his phrasing as the blues giant he allegedly is hailed as. Kind of like a Rory Gallagher whose fans have a long winded reverence for, and somehow can sway dilettantes into believing the majority of the songs are great and not just B-side sounding and plodding along with very marginal vocal charms.

    The 'second album' is a good one to learn to play guitar from. And thankfully his 'singing' is very minimal. Mostly instrumental.

    Totally understand what he went thru, I burnt out on Acid in 2001-2002, it was bad, took me a long time to recover, as soon as my brain popped on acid I just want to be left alone, so it's been 22+ years of pushing people away.

    Mick Jagger and Keith Richards could have made Ian Stewart a full member of the band later, if they so wished, but they didn't. Why not? He deserved it. They mourned his passing and eulogized him, spoke of him as though he was a full member of the group, but never gave him what he deserved for staying so loyal to the group.

    A gentle pushback … sure, The Who. BUT I never thought “A Quick One” the best showcase song. Tull, a relative unknown, was a great opener. Taj was the eclectic act and delivered. The Dirty Mac - half a performance, although the violinist was the redeeming performer on “Whole Lotta Yoko”, a tune that probably found its title well after Led Zeppelin’s demise. BTW, Zep was one of Brian’s picks for the invited performers but got rejected. Marianne’s choice of tune was odd, though she did glow. The Stones took the stage wasted but performed admirably, despite rumors Brian’s licks were mixed down or simply uncaptured. A very worthy concert film and glad the band released it.

    A wise man said believe nothing of what you hear, and only half of what you see. That means this message too I guess. No offense to Ron but he made bad decisions and further if he really had a case lawyers would smell money and he would get his. It's a little unbelievable that if it matters enough that it's been known for decades AFTER the DC5's 10 minutes in the limelight that at some point Ron would not have seek advice and filed copyright suits. That he would be concerned about Rick and Lenny after say '66? nahhh, that doesn't land well. I'm sure he didn't "get his" but I'm also sure we won't ever know the truth. Even as a kid in '64 I knew the DC5 records were phony as a 3 dollar bill. They sounded like my parents music compared to the Beatles... Zip a Dee Doo Dah? On Broadway? Chaquita? (Tequila) Give me a break, and the production was so fake commercial smooth I just knew that wasn't them playing and I was only 11-12. In the 80s I'd run into Dave all the time when he had his offices in the Capitol tower for his RSG and Time projects 'bout same time Brian May was always there with the StarFleet project and Queen were doing Flash Gordon also on EMI/Capitol at the time. 👀

    Roy along with Danny Gatton were never going to be household names they didn,t do the stupid look at me im a guitar god poses. They didn,t fit the profile. Roy looked and dressed like your Geography Teacher and Danny walked on stage dressed like he,d come to fix the roof. They might be unknown to the masses. But the lesser more succesful guitar gods of today are very aware of them

    • @knightfall9394
      @knightfall9394 4 дні тому

      Guitar god poses has nothing to do with it, they werent gonna be household names because neither of them really knew how to write songs (or sing well) and both of them had their own personal problems and demons that held them back. Yea i suppose looks had something to do with it as well, but id say the songwriting and personal problems did a lot more. I know both of them have their fans (myself included) but lets be honest neither of them were great at songwriting.

    Bill Wyman says Rory would not have fit well with the Stones because he could not be subservient to Mick and Keith. True. Rory was a hardcore (and very good) soloist. But Ronnie Wood can solo, play rhythm guitar, and he always does what Keith says. Think about it. The punk style of most of "Some Girls," "Emotional Rescue," and "Tattoo You," etc would never have happened. Ronnie worked out way better, weaving with Keith. I know a guy who kept a $1000 Bose stereo in his college dorm room in 1975. He played Rory Gallagher constantly. So I knew of the deep admiration.

    I really enjoyed this little retrospective on Big Star, and I actually even learned a few things! The only little complaint I have is the loop of the instrumental in the background. Over and over, it gets really annoying. Why not put a few clips of Big Star and Alex Chilton music making your short even more interesting?

    It was a huge mistake to invite The Who just when they were beginning their untouchable live era. Even way past their prime at the concert for 9/11 they stole the show. Pete has a knack for having the right song, at the right place, at the right time. This performance was one of those. That was more than just music, it was a theatrical performance.

    The AC band was my favorite in high school. The first album I ever bought was Billion Dollar Babies, and I wore that sucker out. I never saw the original band live, but, I saw them on Halloween, here in Phoenix when they played at the AZ State Fair, probably in 2015 or so. I had chills and tears in my eyes when they played Halo of Flies. They even brought out the gallows for the first time in many years. My Mom always thought I flipped when she heard me listening to Killer and BDB! What great albums.
